During the summer school holidays of the 1950`s most children from the town would make their way to Midsummer Meadow to go swimming in the outdoor pool . it was a good cheap way for us to enjoy ourselves. . It was a very large pool . in the centre was a rope that divided the shallow end  from the deep end. We  enjoyed being the water on hot days. We always went with our mother she was happy to sit on the grass and watch everyone in the water or talk to other mothers siting near by. it was an outdoor pool so the water could be cold. On a warm summers day it was as good as being at the seaside. If we was good at the end of the session we was allowed a packet of marmite crisps from the shop there. Then the walk home by the river Nene.

Opposite was the Nunn Mills Electric Power Station.

it was partly demolished in 1970`s. as of 2012 the building is derelict. The railway line between Bedford and Northampton was used to transport coal to the power station.

It has been said that  part of  the land will be used for a new university to give students easy access to the town
