News from the newspapers.

in 1989 the Chronicle and Echo newspaper ran a competition along with the Northampton borough council to produce a souvenir book marking the borough`s 800th      charter anniversary year. i was living in rugby at the time. my mother saved the local newspapers for me as she knew i wanted to keep up todate with the news about Northampton. i found the article and applies. we had to send a short story of our family history. i sent the story of the Gullivers. i was one of five people to be chosen and we had to go to see the publishers in Leicester for an interview as to how we was to set it out. my article and photo was accepted by them. i couldnt believe that i had been chosen as a t school my worst subject  had been english writing. i am still not good at spelling, thank goodness for computer spell

The local papers of which there was many did an article about me covering over two pages

Tuesday 21 march 1989 12 o clock we was meet in the terrace suite of Derngate to be presented to the mayor and receive a copy of the book. There was many people there and a buffet was set out  for us. for me this was the beginning of knowing i wanted to live back in northamptonshire. it would take another year before that happened.

June 2012 Queen Elizabeth has reigned  for 60 years.

I can remember listing to the radio  and the news was the King is dead. He had been in poor health. Princess Elizabeth and Prince Phillip were away in Africa. every one was sad. The only way we would know of any thing was listening to the radio and reading the newspapers. I learnt to read at an early age. i didnt want to just look at the photos in the newspaper . I wanted to know what was going on in the world . The newsaper that interested me the most was the local one the Chroncile and Echo. This was delivered each evening for my parents to read, then after wards i was allowed to look at it. For 16 years i have had the newspaper each evening. As of June 2012 the newspaper has stopped being printed daily and will be printed once a week. When i live away my mother used to save me a few copies  for when she visited us and i was eager to read them and catch up with the news. I already miss reading the paper for the local news. the web site isnt the same as no little bits of information on it. I enjoy looking at BBC news web site and catch up with the world news daily.

The Olympic Torch Flame is being carried around the United Kingdom. Today it started  in Coventry Warwickshire at 7.06 am. Before arriving in Rugby being carried by lots of local people through Rugby. Lawford Road town centre and Hillmorton Road Horton Crescent to Rugby School. The group stopped here for a short break. Barby Road and Dunchurch Road on to Dunchurch, travelling  on by road to Northampton.

Arriving in Northampton Weedon Road. Amongst the people watching was my eldest daughter.

Then onwards into the town centre where thousands of people stood waiting in the streets. The change over/ kissing of the torches took place in St Giles Terrace. many people were unable to see it happen. The G3 signal went down and it was not seen by people following it from the BBC web site.

Photos from the 2012 Olympic Games London.

Having never been that interested in sport. I found myself watching the 2012 Olympic Games. The most enjoyable for me was the cycling, swimming, diving, rowing  sailing[ Weymouth, Portland] horse jumping, dressage. The games took part at many different venues in Britain . The world got to see what our country has to offer.

I became interested the the running and BMX bike trials. It was clear that all the people taking part in the Olympics put everything they could in to the games . A credit to the BRITISH ISLES  .

It was a show case to the world what we can do. Lets keep up the good work and be proud of our country.

The Paralymics was the next games to be held at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. I was inspired by the athletes with their disablements. They put over 100% into everything. It was the runners  with no legs below the knees, It was the swimmers with no arms.we must all strive to do as much as we can .

august 2013.

Northampton first buses will finish in Northampton in September 2013. there will be a smaller bus service run by stage coach.

when first bus was deciding to end running in Northampton. they asked the staff to clear out all the papers an belonging and sent it all  for scrap. with quick thinking  items have been saved for the future. next the old tram / bus depot was to be demolished and used for a housing estate and shops. people from st james got together and with help from graham croucher, my son in law and daughter and myself[ writing emails to the counsellors at the Northampton council we have hopefully saved the building. next churchs shoes have decided to build a factory with in the walls of the tram / bus station. we hope for the best .
