Designed by Sir Clough Williams Ellis born Gayton rectory Northamptonshire .H e planned to design his own village from the age of 5-6years old.
His father was the rector of St Marys Church Gayton Northampton
Having lived in Blisworth from 1959-1968 , i involved myself into village life and joined into help out. Going to church each Sunday and also bible class . I got to know the people connected to the church. I became a Sunday school teacher and enjoyed teaching the children about God and Jesus and the bible. My mother was a member of the WI and i was the youngest member to join. She was a member for 50 years. Each month there was a competition and the person that won the most competitions at the end of the year won a silver WI teaspoon. One year out mother won and the following year i won the prize. The over sixties had a tea club and mum would help out once a month by making small cakes and helping the old people by taking the tea around in the old Chapel rooms in Chapel Lane.
As i attended Roade School i was out of the village all weekdays. Two school buses run by Websters collected us each morning. One from the Gayton area and the other from Towcester Road area of Blisworth. This was a good way of getting to know the local school children. After a cookery lesson if we girls had done cooking the boys would be after us to try the food we had cooked. We very often went home with no food in our baskets.
Some of our friends lived in other villages and during the school holidays we would go for bike rides to see them. I used to ride to Wootton and Hardingstone and Gayton.
Gayton was the village where Sir Clough Williams Ellis was born in 1883. He died in 1978.he designed and built Portmeiron village in Mid Wales. a fine copy of an Italian village. His daughter Susan designed Portmerion Pottery. Her god father was Rudyard Kipling. One of our school houses in Barry Road Secondary School was named after him. It was called Kipling House .
